Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo

The hotel was nice and very clean. Standard room, but clean. We liked the proximity of the main attractions of the site: beach, restaurant, snack on the beach, bars, swimming pool. The room is a little further, but not too much. Service was good. The thematic buffets are interesting and I loved the Mexican night! It's easy to book the a la carte restaurants and we loved the steak house and pescadore. Although the beach is not white sand like in Cuba, she is still beautiful. Perfect for very long walks on the beach, especially to Las Terrenas. Great for snorkeling: we spent hours walking underwater to see the pretty fish. Many people there are kite-surfing on the site of the hotel and around. We took the trip to El Limon waterfall that is, with the landscape, breathtaking horseback ride and enhanced by the natural beauty and the friendliness of the guides.

Drinks are common: no dry martini and mojitos only ever tasted the same. The house wine was very very very ordinary. The service at the beach snack bar was poor. The trip airport-hotel along, but we knew before booking. I read in previous posts that there was not much animation (although it fell, we wanted something super quiet), but I found that there were all day and for everyone.

The beach is really supeer for those who do not like the waves. Many corals. You can see a fish eye. Courtesy of staff. I'll be back for sure.

Hotel beautiful, beautiful site, very clean, nice beach, calm sea, many corrail have the impression to swim in an aquarium fish are telement, Goldon beautiful suite, the food is exellent, only one hotel on the beach is So just enjoy the beauty of nature by walking on the beach. Lots of vegetation, with beautiful mountainous landscape. My travels in one second Bahia Principe I really have a favorite for this hotel chain. I highly recommend it. Jeep safari excurtion runner, very interesting, see the typical life of Dominicans.

The bed was very hard, drink ordinary bin, made with gasoline and not real fruit. Vendor on the beach HARASS.

Resort set back. There is no other complex in the vicinity. Very quiet, very long beach that can walk several miles. Coral reefs in front of the beach. Very interesting for snorkeling. Bring your masks, fins and snorkels! Enjoy fish without going into great depths. No waves at the beach (coral reefs). Calm water, very warm and clear (especially in the afternoon at the beach). Ideal for children (safe). Site of the complex very lush (lots of vegetation, palm trees, flowers, etc..). Standard rooms are nice but a bit small for two. The suites are better, especially for families with children (check the package). Can eat on an outdoor terrace (better than in the dining room). The main bar is open plan (great for aeration). Large section open area for smokers.

The lobby is very small and near the beach, which is rather particular as a concept. Usually, the opposite is true. The lobby is a bit off the road and units (rooms) are between the lobby and the beach. Units are found very near the road! WARNING! There are close to the construction units 20, 21 and 24. Ask to be changed unit (Pile Driving, hammer, etc.). Very small buffet and the dining room. Varied little choice and very repetitive (morning, afternoon and evening). A la carte restaurants very average. The best are: El Pescador (fish and seafood) and Gourmet (pseudo French cuisine). Forget the Italian (Portofino) and Asian who are abominable. Snack Bar Beach very small, limited choices and repetitive. SPO. The excursions are too expensive and are always the same (catamaran, quad runner, etc.). WARNING! The whale watching tours are still available even though the whales leave in late March (scam). No lobster fishing for two months (law of the country, breeding the crustacean) April 1 to June 1. Beware lobsters served in restaurants of the complex (frozen and overcooked). Very few shops to troubleshoot and exercised prices are too expensive for what little choice there is. Go to the store after the small airstrip Cessa in front of the complex (very good price: cigarettes, alcohol, coffee, soda water, milk "Grand Pre" to put in coffee, etc.. Main Building (Pueblo principle ) very very small and uninteresting (small stage, three miniature shops, a jewelery shop and souvenir photo). The complex is located ten minutes drive from the village of Las Terrenas. Forget this crappy place. There has no interest (dirty, no choice, it could, it's dirty, dangerous sidewalks (holes), short, very very stinky. This complex in the infrastructure of a 4 ½ star, but with a service four. It certainly is not a 5 star ...

I is not really negative just a few comments I found the buffet that the space of n buffet was not big enough for several outstanding person in a same file so square egg and roti laCirculation congested in the morning that the other counter, especially vers8.15 8.30 jy went tot.l more animated a little but not much, and music dominicaine would have been nice in the evening before dinner or after, as regards performances not very large stature .. but light enough are the observations which have not hindered my vacation.

Very nice place, tropical vegetation, beautiful room, beautiful site, welcoming staff. I recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the Samana. Park Haitises, the coffee road, El Limon Falls, the village of Las Terrenasl, it has many beautiful place to visit. The food is okay, good selection of drinks. Samana has landscapes of immense beauty.

I do not recommend this hotel for those who like to participate in activities. The animation is not his forte. After 23hrs it has larger world. For those who just want to make the beach and much more I recommend Punta Cana, the temperature is certain to Samana because the rains are more frequent. the pool is small.

4.5 * honest! Many Spaniards, French and German family (young) or couple (older). Very nice hotel, lush gardens and surrounding countryside. Very long beach and well kept. Shallow sea, no waves and lots of corals (see tropical fish). Good service both at the reception, for à la carte, and snack at the buffet. It does not bother the staff unlike some other "resorts" Dominicans. Proposal satisfactory and varied menus. Drinks and cocktails interesting. We'd go back.

Very few things are worth noting. Rooms a bit ordinary, demanding renovation and redecoration but above that could be better maintained. Problem with hot water almost every night. Cleanliness left something to be desired but only in our room, the hotel is generally very clean. Animation active throughout the day, pleasant without being obsessive. Evening activities are somewhat less relevant. Lobby bar a little boring without special atmosphere despite the decor actually quite nice. Empty disco and piano bar closed.

I was in the golden section, so in a suite. The room was very nice and big. The food ... The buffet was excellent, as good as the a la carte restaurants. There was a theme to each day so we do not always eat the same thing. The staff was very nice. There are corals just outside the hotel and one can observe tropical fish (do not forget your kit apnea, it's worth). Beautiful beach. One can walk very far to the town of Las Terrenas. There are armed guards on each side of the beach and the entrance to protect the site, you must sign to exit the site. We are surprised anyway! The room is done twice a day and evening there are chocolates on the pillow. The day it rained, we went for a hike of 4 wheels in the mountains, villages and on the beach ... it was just too great and the rain added to the adventure (we took this trip in a small hotel not far cheaper because bcp)! It was my sister's wedding so I have to say it was magic on the beach!

If you're lucky, you'll have a p-ê washcloth or two during your stay. Salespeople are really harassing. Besides, do not hesitate to negotiate because you can often get what you want for 1/3 the price! The buffet service for coffee and water is slow. Sometimes, it lacks coverage because the staff does not seem sufficient to the task. Despite these minor gripes, the trip was really great and I would return!

Just to correct the comments Dominik Chartier. The Golden suites are not all was the end of the site. There are around. I was in block 3, there are also blocks 1,3,5,7,8,9,10.11.12

Nice enough, quality. We were the royal golden coast and the rooms and service are great. We had a pool reserved for this section. The food at the buffet as many a la carte restaurant are very acceptable, the gourmet is really excellent. The presentations are very worthy of great restaurants. The beach is beautiful and very long, great for jogging enthusiasts. The animation is good, but we have fun ends soon anyway.

Temperature. 5 days of rain on 7, it's a bit much. Very disappointing and geos did their best to entertain us but at any given time, we want the sun to enjoy the beautiful terraces and outdoor facilities. The service is also very very slow at the buffet, the coffee we must go and fetch us even often, but we are on vacation so it is not news, so we forgive them. The buffet is perhaps a little small considering the number of people on the site. Tres varies by cons. Service to a la carte restaurant is very fast, too, you enter a 20h a 8:50 p.m. and you go out easily. By cons, we would return without any problem, we have enough time to appreciate the beauty of Samana.
