At Santiago de Cuba, the culture and the people combine to create a unique blend within Antilles. With its museums, festivals, its colorful places, unique music and resplendent architecture, Santiago has what dreams are made of. A visit to La Casa de la Trova is absolutely necessary if you're counting on going to town. It's the cultural hearts who shake Santiago, thanks to the bolero and its song. You can always get away on the air of the Marte Plaza, where often several improvised spectacles await. Around the Plaza stand many architectural charms, which the Cathedral and Hotel de Ville can only name. You can also discover all the Cuban charm in a cabaret or in the theater. Whether its the Santiago Tropicana, the San Pedro del Mar cabaret, La Casa de la Trova or any other establishment that makes the reputation of the town, you can assure to have an excellent time! If you're the kind that can dance all night, Santiago has what you're looking for with numerous clubs and bars. On the historical map, Santiago is a must to Cuba. The Emilio Barcardi museum is recognized for displaying objects dating back to the Pre-Columbian Era along with many paintings and works of art from the Modern Era. The military past of Cuba is also exposed and explained in several other places around the museum. On the site of San Pedro fortress, we can clearly understand the piracy of Colonial Cuban history. At the San Juan Loma and at the Revolution Square, you can learn about the Independence War (against the United States, Cuba, and Spain); war that took place at the dawn of the 20th century. The role of Cuban secessionists is explained in detail. Closer to us in history, Moncada has been a scene of battle between Castro's forces and those of Batista. Today without danger, the location is rather recognized for its military museum. Santiago also has a particular geographical position. Close to mountains and the ocean, you have the chance to escape on the beach, in the national park or you can attack the majestic mountains of Sierra Maestra. Whether for a day, a week or a longer stay, Santiago de Cuba is worth it for sure! (less text)
