Dominican Republic have is carnival in february

The Rio carnival is surely the best known in our northern regions. But did you know that Dominican Republic also have its own Carnival?

During february, several regions are in holidays!
Of course, the festivities take place in Santo Domingo the capital. Do not miss one of the busiest streets, George Washington Avenue (the Malecon). But you also have the opportunity to meet all sorts of characters at the park Enriquillo. Although there are activities for several weeks, wear special attention on february 27 for the parade which takes place on the anniversary of independence and proclamation of the Republic. At that time, you will discover a colorful folklore, festivities flavored DR! Some of the traditional carnival masks are on display at Museum in Santo Domingo.

But the most popular of all activities is the carnival of La Vega, which takes place in the center of the Dominican Republic. Masks traditionally worn in La Vega are impressive because they represent horned devils (diablos cojuelos). Every Sunday in February, during the processions, the devils look extravagant fishermen in the crowd and charged them with their "bladder", kind of large clubs, as punishment for their sins!
Let yourself be carried by the heady rhythms of meringue and salsa! The Dominicans saw Carnival as a celebration. They flock into the streets, in private clubs and anywhere you can celebrate by wearing the mask of characters typical of the Dominican carnival.
